Spelling proficiency is a crucial skill that impacts overall academic performance and communication confidence. Many students face challenges in spelling due to gaps in understanding phonetic patterns, spelling rules, and sight word recognition. Traditional teaching methods often fall short in providing the personalized, fluency-based approach needed for true mastery.
Spelling Mastery
Fit Spelling offers a targeted, fluency-based program that ensures students achieve spelling proficiency through explicit instruction and practice. The program focuses on four main areas:
- Mastery of Phonetic Patterns: Combining clear instruction with fluency-building exercises to help students understand and apply the sounds of letters and combinations effortlessly.
- Understanding Spelling Rules: Teaching and reinforcing rules like prefixes, suffixes, vowel combinations, and spelling conventions through repeated practice to build automaticity.
- Sight Word Spelling: Enhancing recognition and memorization of common words that do not always follow standard phonetic rules through visual learning and repetition.
- Spelling in Context: Applying spelling skills within sentences and paragraphs to strengthen real-world writing and communication abilities.
This structured approach ensures students can apply their spelling knowledge effectively, leading to improved writing skills and overall academic success.
The Outcome
The combination of Fit Spelling’s curricular strategy with the general Fit Learning Method has produced powerful results for all learners since 1998. Students who enroll in Fit Spelling can expect to see an increase in Spelling Skills in just 40-hours.
The graph includes all learners from 2018 to the present who completed 40 hours of Fit Spelling. On average, learners gained 23 percentile points across of variety of spelling measures.
